Although Clarion River Adventures is not a fly fishing shop, clients often request the flies and leaders that we use on our trips on our Pennsylvania waters. Oftentimes these items are unavailable in many fly fishing supply shops(sometimes unavailable at all). Therefore, Kurt has decided to offer (on a limited basis) these flies and leaders to clients and the public. CRA Gift Certificates can be purchased and used for these items as well. PA residents only, please include 6% Pennsylvania Sales Tax with check/money order. Hand Tied Leaders Kurt ties his leaders by hand, primarily with Maxima Line Co. products. These leaders are extremely important in developing control of fly presentation, as is oftentimes noted in our sport. The dry fly leaders are adapted from the slack-cast formulas of Mr. George Harvey, and many of the subsurface leaders are based upon the formulas of Joe Humphreys (which likely were developed from adaptations of Mr. Harvey's leader designs as well). Here is why we need a variety of leaders: If we do not have a way of adjusting the stiffness/softness/length/diameter of our leaders, then we must make adjustments to our casting stroke every time we change flies, techniques, or spots. No wonder people struggle so much with fly presentation! Leader substitution and adjustment is probably your most valuable and controllable tool for success. More so than the fly you choose! You need to learn and apply this information! CRA offer leaders for dry fly fishing, nymphing with one or two nymphs, wet fly fishing with droppers for multiple flies, and streamer fishing. Only a small number of patterns will be offered initially, and depending on need/time constraint, etc., more patterns will be offered in the future. I am selling flies that you cannot buy elsewhere, or patterns adapted for a particular reason. Note...CRA does NOT stock fly patterns in inventory. Fly selections are at this time on individual basis, to be tied after an order is placed via phone or email.
